Nudist Beach in Llucmajor
Situated in the south of Majorca, less than an hour’s drive from the capital city of Palma, is the town of Llucmajor. Its municipality is the largest on the island and as the town is approximately 15 kilometres inland, it enjoys a more relaxed pace of life, not overrun by tourism. The town and surrounding area started life as small farming hamlets and went on to develop a prosperous shoe making and agricultural industry, which to this day still holds important economical status. The town’s most historical event took place in 1349 when the famous battle of Llucmajor was raged in the surrounding plains of Galdent.
Although the town is fairly large and offers a wide selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, visitors should not expect the usual tourist fare of full English breakfast, fast foods and fanciful cocktails. It is more of a down to earth Spanish town, where tapas and espresso are enjoyed in sidewalk cafes whilst musing over which chess piece to move next. Having said this, Llucmajor is only 15 kilometres from the coast and makes an excellent base to explore the wonderful surrounding areas. Visitors can spend leisurely days wondering the 70 kilometres of traffic free lanes and bridleways that criss-cross the countryside, connecting the villages and towns. There are historical landmarks and monuments to discover, including the oldest historical monument on the island, The Capocorb Vell, dedicated to Majorca’s early inhabitants, the Talayotic people.
The nearest beaches are Cala Pi which is very picturesque and often quiet, and the busy beach in the popular tourist resort of S’Arenal. There is also an official nudist beach in Llucmajor, located slightly east of Cala Pi. For golfers, and those wishing to take up the sport professionally, the Son Antem Golf Club has a golf academy with the largest practice area of all Spain’s golf courses and offers lessons to golfers and novices alike.
