Nudist Beaches in Pollença

Pollença

Situated in the far north corner of Majorca is the town of Pollença. Like many towns on the island it lies a few kilometres inland, in order to give the town an element of protection against marauding pirates of days gone by. It is a picturesque and tidy town with quaint plazas and winding lanes surrounding the main town square. Called Plaça Major, the square is dominated by the 13th century church of Nostra Senyora dels Angels, built by the Knights Templar and recognisable by its beautiful rose window. Most visitors to the square will head north to climb the 365 step stairway that ascends Calvari Hill to the chapel built on the summit. On Good Friday the townsfolk have a parade on the hill which is a rather sombre enactment of the Stations of the Cross. The Museum of Pollença is housed in the towns other main church, Convent de Sant Domingo and has some interesting pre-historic sculptures and a Tibetan mandate given to the church by the Dalai Lama.

The town and its port area have a pleasant selection of bars and restaurants serving a wide range of food and drink. For fantastic tapas, visitors can try Manzanas y Peras, a tiny restaurant located at the bottom of the Calvari steps (is the name of the restaurant a Cockney pun ?) The Old Town has a popular Italian restaurant called Cantonet, and for mouthwatering fish and seafood with views over the harbour, visitors should try the restaurants in the port. Pollença has a range of shops and sidewalk cafes, boutiques, jewellery and craft shops. There is a Sunday morning market in the town and a Wednesday market in the port area.

The lovely bay of Pollença enjoys a long stretch of golden sand and offers a range of beach amenities as well as water sports facilities. Albercutx Beach is 2 kilometres long and a great choice for families with small children as the waters are calm and shallow. Around the tip of the bay’s peninsular naturists can choose from 6 official nudist beaches in Pollença. The town is located in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, an extremely popular area for hikers and cyclists with steep mountain trails and winding roads.
