Getxo Area
Getxo is the large estuary town on the right bank of the Abra, in Bizkaia, a short Metro ride from Bilbao. Official municipal and Basque tourism present it as a place of hanging houses, Puerto Viejo, a working waterfront and a string of beaches from the urban sands of Las Arenas, Ereaga and Arrigunaga out to the wilder Uribe cliffs. UNESCO's Vizcaya Bridge of 1893 still links Getxo with Portugalete by hanging gondola, 45 metres above the Ibaizabal mouth. Visitors travelling by air use Bilbao Airport; those coming by rail use Metro Bilbao. Children and adults alike will enjoy the harbour walks and the family town beaches. Those town sands are not children on this site.
There are 2 nudist beaches in Getxo. Official Euskadi places Barinatxe, also called La Salvaje, between Getxo and Sopela: a wide, cliff-flanked sand with its own dune system, surf clubs and a nudist area. The same official page notes summer lifeguard hours and a multi-use building with showers. Gorrondatxe, also called Azkorri, is Getxo's cliff and dune beach toward Berango. Official Getxo tourism runs a geological walk here and mentions the stratigraphic golden spike that draws researchers to the cliffs; official Euskadi lists nudism among the beach services. Guía de Playas records both as practised naturist shores. The main urban fronts remain textile-leaning family beaches. Wear shoes on the steep access, and do not treat the whole Getxo seafront as a single naturist strip.
