Sopela Area
Sopela, also written Sopelana on older road signs, is the Uribe surfing town in Bizkaia between Getxo and Barrika. Official Basque tourism places it on the same cliff coast as Barinatxe and Meñakoz, a short Metro hop from Bilbao at Larrabasterra or Sopela and a summer bus ride toward the sands. The village sits above the shore rather than on a long urban promenade. Visitors come for surf schools, coastal walks and two wilder strands that this site already shares with the neighbouring municipalities. Atxabiribil, the main service beach of Sopela, is not a child here.
There are 2 nudist beaches in Sopela. Official Euskadi locates Barinatxe, La Salvaje, between Sopela and Getxo, a wide open sand with dunes, cliffs, surf peaks and a nudist area. The same official sheet mentions a multi-use building, two surf clubs and summer lifeguard cover. Meñakoz is the pebble beach toward Barrika. Official Euskadi calls it a 400-metre nudist beach shared by both towns, a lonely, open shore and a powerful big-wave spot for high-level surfers only. Guía de Playas records both as practised naturist shores. Follow the people around you: the nudist custom sits on these two imported pages, not on every Sopela sand. Stay off the dunes where they have been replanted, and treat the beaches as public, family-friendly Atlantic shores.
