Situated on the Costa del Azahar, south of Valencia City, Gandia is a large coastal city extremely popular with Spanish holidaymakers. Aside from its tourist industry, Gandia is one of Spain’s largest citrus growing regions. Essentially divided into 2 areas, the city that houses the commercial and shopping districts and Gandia beach area where the tourist spots and holiday residential areas are found. The city boasts an Old Quarter offering parks, boulevards, historical sites and excellent shopping facilities. A walk along the Passeig de les Germanies lovely promenade will take visitors over the river to the weekly Saturday market. The beach area, which is actually 2 kilometres from the city, has wonderful Blue Flag beaches, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
The city offers some interesting historical monuments and buildings, including the popular 14th century Ducal Palace where visitors can take guided tours. Also of interest are the Gandia Cathedral, Monastery of Saint Jeroni de Cotalba and the Archaeological Museum of Gandia. Throughout the year there are art exhibitions, literary contests and festivals including the International Festival of Classical Music. Gandia has all kinds of sporting activities and sports centres available, including football, tennis, padel, swimming pools, athletic tracks and gymnasiums. Water sports abound along the beach and port areas and there are 3 challenging 18 hole golf courses to choose from.
Campers will enjoy the L’Alqueria camping and bungalow complex which is situated about 20 minutes walk from the beach and has a range of camping and bungalow options. The camp facilities include 2 swimming pools, jacuzzi & spa, sauna, gymnasium, shopping facilities, bar & terrace, restaurant, children’s play areas, soccer field, petanca pitches, table tennis and much more. The surrounding countryside is beautiful for hiking and nearby is a river and lake for fishing. There is an official nudist beach in Gandia located not far from the camping grounds.
