Located on a hill overlooking the Vega Baja region, Guardamar del Segura is just north of the large town of Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. Its position at the mouth of the river Segura is a fantastic habitat for all manner of fish and bird species. Guardamar is a popular town for water sports and fishing, with the Marina de las Dunas located at the mouth of the river, providing nearly 500 mooring berths. The town offers a range of local services and amenities, bars and restaurants and is a popular place to dine on seafood. Aside from water sports, Guardamar has 2 excellent sports centres with facilities such as tennis, padel, basketball, football and even an Olympic size swimming pool. There are 2 parks in the town, ideal for escaping the afternoon sun and watching the local wildlife. Following the river Segura is a walking and cycling route where the lovely scenery can be appreciated whilst getting in a bit of exercise. During the summer months Guardamar has a night market and all year round there is a Wednesday morning market.
The inland area of Guardamar boasts an extremely popular market, known as the Lemon Tree, with around 500 stalls. The market is open every Sunday morning and is located near the urbanisation of El Raso. For a fantastic range of shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, night clubs and other great things to do, the nearby town of Torrevieja will not disappoint. There are several markets, including an indoor fish market where it is advisable to visit in the early morning before the best catches are snapped up. The town has a large marina, boulevard, several beaches, parks, museums a water park and both land and water based sporting facilities. Visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to wining and dining in Torrevieja. Being a predominantly Spanish town there are many cafes and restaurants serving meals at very reasonable prices compared to the surrounding holiday resorts. There are also a good selection of Traditional Spanish bars where customers are served a free tapas with their drinks order.
Guardamar does not have a golf course but within a 40 minute drive there are several challenging 18 hole courses to choose from. The town is blessed with over 10 kilometres of lovely beaches and sand dunes with a backdrop of pine forest. There is also an official nudist beach in Guardamar del Segura, located north of the town near the La Marina area.
