Ferrol
Ferrol Area
Ferrol is the naval city of the ría that bears its name, a planned Enlightenment town of arsenals, dockyards and a grid of streets around the Magdalena quarter. Official Galician tourism presents the city for its military harbour, the castle of San Felipe at the ría mouth and a short hop to the outer Atlantic coast toward Valdoviño. The working centre sits inside the ría; the open-sea beaches lie beyond the headlands, on the road toward Covas and Pantín. Visitors arrive by the AP-9, by FEVE along the Mariña, or through A Coruña airport. Children and adults alike will enjoy the harbour walks and the family sands closer to the city.
The outer coast is a different outline from the dockyard ría: longer Atlantic swell and two imported pages on this site. There are 2 nudist beaches in Ferrol, Lumebo and Ponzos, public shores for lazy days in the sun rather than marked enclosures. Ponzos is the better-known outer sand; Lumebo is the quieter neighbour. Read the people around you, expect fewer services than the city promenades, and do not treat the whole Ferrolterra front as a single naturist strip.
