Zumaia Area

Zumaia is the eastern town of the Basque Coast UNESCO Global Geopark, where the Urola meets the Bay of Biscay in western Gipuzkoa. Official geopark pages name Zumaia, with Deba and Mutriku, as a founding municipality, part of the European and Global Geoparks Networks since 2010 and declared a UNESCO Global Geopark in November 2015. Official geopark copy describes 13 kilometres of flysch cliffs that record more than 60 million years of Earth history, including the thin dark layer linked to the end-Cretaceous extinction. Visitors arrive on the N-634, the A-8 or Euskotren. The geopark lists a tourist office in the town. Itzurun, the better-known town flysch beach, is not a child on this site.

There is 1 nudist beach in Zumaia on this tree: Algorri, a small isolated cove of sand, pebbles and rock at the foot of the same protected Deba-Zumaia cliffs. Guía de Playas records it as partial nudism, about 25 metres long, with difficult access from the N-634 and a note that the cliffs and wave-cut platform can also be seen on the Flysch Route. Official geopark boat trips include an Algorri outing. This is a walk-in geological cove, not a serviced town enclosure. Wear shoes, respect the biotopo rules, and keep Itzurun and the harbour as the family and viewpoint side of a Zumaia day.
