Gipuzkoa Province
The province of Gipuzkoa is the eastern Basque Coast, from the Deba estuary to the Bidasoa and the French border, with Donostia/San Sebastián as its capital. Official Basque tourism describes a compact Atlantic face of flysch cliffs, surfing sands, fishing harbours and a city bay. Visitors arrive through San Sebastián Airport at Hondarribia, by the A-8, or on the Euskotren line that threads Zumaia, Zarautz and the capital. Inland cider houses and mountain valleys sit a short drive from the sea.
Gipuzkoa province offers visitors an excellent choice of attractions, historic towns, family sands and some of the most photographed cliffs on the Cantabrian coast. Donostia/San Sebastián is famous for La Concha, the Gros surf of Zurriola, the Comb of the Wind and a food culture that draws visitors all year. Official Basque Coast copy also names Zurriola and the Ulia and Igeldo shores among the community's naturist places; this site lists those three children and does not invent extra city coves. West of Getaria, Deba, Mutriku and Zumaia form the Basque Coast UNESCO Global Geopark, part of the European and Global Geoparks Networks since 2010 and declared a UNESCO Global Geopark in November 2015. Official geopark pages put the territory between the Bay of Biscay and the Basque mountains, with flysch layers that record more than 60 million years of Earth history. Zarautz holds the longest beach in Gipuzkoa, about 2.5 kilometres of golden sand, and official Euskadi lists nudism among its services. Pasaia remains a working harbour of four districts east of the capital. Hondarribia keeps a walled old town above Txingudi Bay, next to the Bidasoa estuary.
Fishing and agriculture still matter inland, although the main draw on the coast is undoubtedly tourism, which is no wonder considering the vast choice of beautiful beaches, geopark walks and harbour towns. Each summer thousands of holidaymakers flock to the area in search of fun in the sea, lazy days of sunbathing and evenings spent wining and dining on pintxos, cider and the local catch. Apart from the province's main beaches, there are also 7 areas that have 20 nudist beaches in Gipuzkoa.
