Artenara is the highest town in Gran Canaria, a white village of cave houses at the door of the Tamadaba pine forest. Official PROMOTUR copy places it next to Tejeda in the island's highland heart, a short hop from the Roque Nublo viewpoints and inside the Risco Caído and Sacred Mountains World Heritage landscape. The Casas Cuevas ethnographic museum occupies an old troglodyte dwelling. There is no coastal promenade in the village itself: visitors come for the air, the pines and the lookouts over the west ravines. The GC-210 and GC-210/GC-200 loop from Tejeda or Agaete is the usual road; expect hairpins and winter cloud on the summits.
The municipal boundary does reach the Atlantic on the Tamadaba cliffs. There is 1 nudist beach in Artenara, Playa de las Arenas, an isolated strand of about 975 metres that the Guía de Playas records as practised for nudism, inside the natural park, with difficult access on foot. It is a public wild shore, not a marked enclosure beside the village square. Do not treat the whole highland municipality as a beach resort. Bring water, start early, and leave the pine forest as you found it.
