San Bartolomé de Tirajana is the great southern municipality of Gran Canaria, from the inland white village of the same name down to Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Meloneras. Official Gran Canaria tourism places the 19th-century lighthouse at the heart of one of Europe's most visited dune coasts, beside the special nature reserve of palm grove, lagoon and moving sand. The airport is a short drive on the GC-1. Children and adults alike will enjoy the promenades, the botanical park by the Charca, and the family sands nearest the lighthouse and Meloneras. The old mountain villages of Fataga and San Bartolomé remain a cooler day trip.
There are 9 nudist beaches in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Official municipal tourism states that from the Faro de Maspalomas to Playa del Inglés the nudist zone begins between kiosks 3 and 4, and from Playa del Inglés toward the lighthouse it begins between kiosks 5 and 6. Maspalomas is the long semi-urban dune beach in that reserve, about 2.7 kilometres in the Guía. Montaña de Arena is a quieter isolated sand nearby. The remaining imported neighbours, including Triana and El Molinero, are shorter isolated coves, several in a ZEC. The lighthouse and Meloneras fronts stay family textile unless you have walked into the signed dune stretch.
