Badalona Area
Badalona is the large coastal city immediately north of Barcelona, in the Barcelonès, on the far side of the River Besòs. It is a Roman town, once Baetulo, with a museum of underground remains, a long urban seafront and a dense, everyday Catalan city rather than a holiday resort. The C-31, the Rodalies line and Barcelona's metro extensions make it an easy outing from the capital. The modern city runs from the Besòs edge up toward Montgat, with a promenade and marina in front of a wide, serviced city beach. Inland, the older streets around the church of Santa Maria are the historic core. People come here to live and to swim after work as much as to visit, and the skyline of Barcelona is often in view to the south-west.
Visitors travelling from the city have a choice of train, metro and bus, and there is no need for a car on a beach day. There are 2 nudist beaches in Badalona, Platja del Coco and Platja de la Mora, on the eastern sand toward Montgat rather than on the main central beach. They are urban, reachable on foot or by local transport, and popular with residents who want a quieter corner of the same seafront.
