Sitges is the best-known town on the Garraf coast, about 35 kilometres south-west of Barcelona. Official Costa Barcelona tourism describes it as a place people visit for beaches, Modernista and artist heritage, carnival, Corpus and the fantastic film festival, not only for a summer weekend. The old town sits above a string of urban beaches, with Cau Ferrat, the Maricel palace and museum, and the Romantic Museum a short walk from the church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla on the headland. The C-32, the C-31, the B-211 from Vilafranca and the Rodalies station make it an easy rail day trip from the city. Children and adults alike will enjoy the promenade, the marina at Aiguadolç and the evening streets of the centre.
The Garraf massif gives Sitges a different outline from the straight Maresme: cliffs, small inlets and a pine-backed walk toward Vilanova. Official Sitges tourism places Els Balmins between Port de Sitges-Aiguadolç and the old town, in three small inlets with a view of the skyline, and states that Balmins is a nudist beach: urban, open and welcoming. There are 4 nudist beaches in Sitges, Balmins plus Cala Morisca, Platja de L'Home Mort and neighbouring Platja de la Desenrocada on the more broken shore. The main town beaches remain a family and holiday front. Balmins is a short walk from the station; L'Home Mort and the calas beyond need a coastal path, so wear shoes and expect fewer services.
