Vilassar de Mar is a Maresme town on the Rodalies R1 between Premià de Mar and Cabrera de Mar / Mataró, about half an hour from Barcelona by suburban train. Official Maresme tourism lists it among the thirty municipalities of the comarca. The town is known locally for flower-growing and a wholesale flower market as well as for its urban beach. Inland Vilassar de Dalt is a separate hill municipality. The station and the N-II sit just behind the seafront, and the C-32 motorway runs a little further inland. This is everyday coastal Catalonia: schools, market, and a summer evening paseo, not a purpose-built holiday centre.

The sand is the typical Maresme mix of coarse gold and a promenade, busier in front of the town and quieter toward the municipal edges. There is 1 nudist beach in Vilassar de Mar, Platja de Ponent, the western public sand where visitors can spend lazy days in the sun or go for an all over tan. The main family front stays the social, textile promenade. From Barcelona it is a short suburban ride, and the flower market and seafront gardens make an easy half-day with the beach.
