Nudist Beaches in Peníscola

Peniscola Area

Peniscola, derived from the Latin word peninsula, is situated in the province of Castellon on the Costa del Azahar. Known locally as ”The City In The Sea” it is dominated by a castle and lighthouse that sits on a rocky headland, joined to the mainland and the rest of the town by a narrow strip of land. It is a fortified seaport rich in history. The castle or fort that commands the headland was built by the Knights Templar in the 14th century and is a popular attraction with it’s imposing moats and ramparts. It also houses the Papal Basilica where Benedict XIII is buried.

There are many activities for visitors to enjoy in the town, including a selection of beaches, the lovely main beach being 5 kilometres long has been awarded Blue Flag status and has leisure activities such as beach volleyball and during the summer months is manned by lifeguards. There is a pleasant promenade lined with palms, perfect for an evening stroll before venturing into the town for a night of wining & dining. Peniscola has a good selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, with the quaint Old Town’s streets and lanes lined with arts & craft shops, pottery shops and local artist studios. There is a port area where each evening visitors can watch the fishing boats return with their bounties of the sea to be auctioned or sold individually, straight from the boats, an excellent way to enjoy super fresh seafood without paying restaurant prices.

Peniscola is blessed to be surrounded by the Natural Park of Serra D’Irta that stretches south along the coast and inland in a stunning array of secluded rocky beaches, coves, wilderness and rocky climbs interspersed with hiking trails and not a building in sight. The park is also home to the 2 nudist beaches in Peniscola that although are not official, nude bathing and sunbathing are practised.
