San Sebastián de la Gomera is the island capital and ferry port, the place Columbus watered before the 1492 Atlantic crossing, with a compact tower, a count's palace and a palm-lined seafront. Official tourism presents La Gomera as a circular green island of deep ravines, silbo whistling and Garajonay National Park, the laurel-forest World Heritage site at the summit. Ferries from Los Cristianos are the usual arrival; the island also has a small airport. Children and adults alike will enjoy the harbour, a drive into the park, and a quieter evening than south Tenerife.
There are 2 nudist beaches in San Sebastián de la Gomera. The Guía lists nudism as practised at both, inside the island biosphere reserve. Avalo is a semi-urban sand and gravel of about 350 metres with easy foot or car access. La Guancha is a longer isolated sand of about 500 metres, noted as difficult or by boat, beside a natural monument. The capital's everyday town beach is not a child here. Keep the harbour front as the family swim.
