Castell-Platja d'Aro is a Baix Empordà municipality in the Vall d'Aro, joining the inland village of Castell d'Aro, with Benedormiens castle now an art space, and the seaside resort of Platja d'Aro. Official Costa Brava guides describe Platja d'Aro as a town on a two-kilometre sand beach that became a major resort, with the camí de ronda arriving from Palamós and Sant Antoni through Torre Valentina. The tourist office is on Carrer Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer. S'Agaró, the neighbouring Noucentista garden-town commissioned from the Girona architect Rafael Masó in the 1920s, and the shopping streets of the Platja d'Aro front are part of the same holiday landscape. Official guides still point to Hostal de la Gavina and the balustrades as the showpiece of that planned seaside. Castell d'Aro, a little inland, is quieter and older.

Visitors arrive by the C-31, by bus from Girona or Barcelona, or on foot along the coastal path. The main beach is serviced, urban and busy in high summer, a favourite with families looking for shops, bars and a long swim. There is 1 nudist beach in Castell-Platja d'Aro, Cala Canyers, a smaller cove off the long sand where visitors who prefer a quieter corner can spend lazy days among the rocks. Wear shoes on the stones, and keep the two-kilometre promenade as the family and evening front of the resort.
