El Port de la Selva Area
El Port de la Selva is a fishing town on the north side of Cap de Creus, south of Llançà, where official Costa Brava guides say the seascapes already belong to the natural park. Behind the harbour, the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes stands about 670 metres above the sea: Lombard Romanesque, older Carolingian and later fabric, and a viewpoint over the Gulf of Lions. Official Catalan heritage tourism still sends visitors up that hill, and summer concerts are held at the monastery. The town itself is a working port that also takes visitors who want a quieter base than Cadaqués or Roses. Writers J. V. Foix and J. M. de Sagarra wrote about it. The road from Llançà is the usual approach; there is no railway in the village.
The park rules apply on the peninsula: stay on marked paths, and do not camp on the calas. The harbour beach in the village is a social, family strand. There is 1 nudist beach in El Port de la Selva, Cala Tamariua, a walk-in cove on the park shore where visitors can spend quiet days among rock and clear water. Wear shoes, carry water, and pair the swim with the monastery road if you want the classic inland view of this coast. The cape is as much a walking landscape as a beach day.
