Colera Area
Colera is a small northern Costa Brava municipality in the Alt Empordà, between Llançà and Portbou, on one of the wildest stretches of the Catalan shore. Official Costa Brava guides group Portbou, Colera, Llançà, El Port de la Selva and Cadaqués as the towns of the Albera and Cap de Creus coast, where the last Pyrenean foothills meet the sea. Colera remains a quiet harbour village rather than a mass resort. The international railway that made Portbou a frontier station also serves this coast; the road is the N-260 and GI-613 line along the cliff. Official guides still mention Portbou's 1878 terminus and the exile routes of 1939; Colera stayed smaller, a harbour under the same Albera foothills.
The Tramuntana can be fierce. Visitors come for the small bay, the walks toward Cap Ras, and a slower pace than Roses or Lloret. There is little in the way of nightlife, and that is part of the charm. There is 1 nudist beach in Colera, Punta d'Es Borró, a walk-in, wind-exposed rocky point between Llançà and the village, a favourite with those who prefer a little more privacy than the harbour strand. Wear shoes, watch the sea, and keep the village sand as the local, family front of the bay.
