Castelló d'Empúries was the chief town of medieval Empordà, seat of the counts, and still reads as a small historic city: Gothic Santa Maria, often called the cathedral of Empordà though it was never a bishop's see, the Jewish Call, the Llotja, the counts' palace and a well-known September medieval festival. Official Costa Brava guides set it on the alluvial plain beside the Empordà Marshes Natural Park, with Empuriabrava, the canal marina built in the 1960s, in the same municipality. Figueres and the Dalí museum are a short hop inland; Roses Bay and the Aiguamolls lagoons are the outdoor half of the visit. The Cortalet information centre is the usual start for park walks. The tourist office is on Plaça dels Homes.

Empuriabrava is known for skydiving and canals; Castelló village is for stone streets and bird hides. Official park notes close parts of the beach in spring for nesting, and those dates bind walkers as well as swimmers. There is 1 nudist beach in Castelló d'Empúries, Can Comes, a long, open park-edge sand toward the bay where visitors can spend quiet days among dunes and birds. Stay on marked paths, keep off dune restoration, and check nesting closures before you walk the full loop. The village square and Empuriabrava canals remain the social, clothed half of the day.
